The mission of Groundswell Conservancy is to protect special places, forever.

Our vision is a world filled with green places where communities thrive.

Groundswell Conservancy's core values are based in our dedication to protect our lands and water now for future generations. They are convictions deeply held by our board and staff and practiced in our conservation efforts. To accomplish our goals, we believe in four core values:

  • Conservation:  Together we are champions for conservation and know how to get tangible results that benefit the community.
  • Collaboration:  We respect and collaborate with landowners, individuals, and organizations who share our vision.
  • Connectedness:  We believe that when people are connected to land and water they will protect it.
  • Commitment:  We have the tenacity to overcome obstacles and follow through on our commitments.

Groundswell is a results-oriented organization. Since our inception in 1983 (originally as the Dane County Natural Heritage Foundation and later as Natural Heritage Land Trust), we have protected hundreds of special places. View a map of the lands we have protected forever.

Groundswell is one of 50+ land trusts in Wisconsin.

What we do
A land trust is a nonprofit, community-based organization that conserves land by permanently protecting land — primarily through the purchase or acceptance of donations of land or conservation easements.
