55 Bird Species Observed - PDF

Join us for a  morning walk at the Lakeshore Nature Preserve with birder Marty Evanson. Hear our origin story of how a group of citizens created a groundswell of community support and saved the 3.4-acre Wally Bauman Woods on the bluffs of Lake Mendota. Birds we hope to see during the spring migration include many different species of warblers and other neotropical migrants. There will also be refreshments at Fire Circle #2.

Where: UW Lakeshore Nature Preserve, Parking Lot 130 by the Class of 1918 Marsh, University Bay Dr., Madison, WI 53705

What to Bring: Dress for the weather. We recommend layers and sturdy shoes or hiking boots, water, binoculars, and insect repellent. There are no restrooms at our meeting location but rustic toilets are available by the beach at the Picnic Point Narrows. We will have a few pairs of binoculars if you do not have your own, courtesy Madison Audubon.

This is a FREE and open event for the public but registration is required! Use the form at the bottom of this page to let us know you are coming.

Our Guide: Marty Evanson is a longtime avid birder and Groundswell and Friends of UW Lakeshore Preserve supporter. He was well loved at the 2017 Bird Walk and is back for more this year.
