Photos from this Event

Fishing is a beloved pastime for many a Wisconsinite and is enjoyed no matter the time of year. If you've been interested in learning how to fish, this is the class for you! Avid trout fisherman, Bill Sonzogni, will lead us through the basics of: choosing equipment for fishing, places to fish, Wisconsin regulations, and will help you try fishing for the first time. Refreshments will also be provided. All of this will be enjoyed at Salmo Pond. Groundswell Conservancy holds a conservation easement across the street from Salmo Pond and continues to protect special places in the Black Earth Creek Valley.

A fishing license is not required, but if you'd like to try actual fishing you will need to have an up to date fishing license. Those purchasing their fist license can do so for only $5! Head to the DNR's Go Wild page to purchase your license before the field trip.

Where: Scherbel Road Parking Lot, Salmo Pond County Park, Black Earth, WI

What to Bring: Dress for the weather. You are encouraged to bring your own fishing pole. However, there will a few pieces of fishing equipment to try. Hiking boots or study walking shoes and a water bottle are encouraged.

Guide: Bill Sonzogni is an avid traveler and fisherman. His love of fishing in Wisconsin led him to co-author the book Exploring Wisconsin Trout Streams: The Angler's Guide. He is also Professor Emeritus of Water Science and Technology at UW-Madison.
